Thailand saw a decline in street crime rate and a surge in cyber crime in 2016. Street crime such as theft, robbery, and car break-ins had declined sharply due to heightened policing measures such as police patrols. On the other hand, cyber crime, particularly online fraud and libel on social media, rose steadily over the last 12 months.
In a report published in June 2016, Thailand was ranked the world's second top target for computer crime, and one of the top 25 for malware attacks. This upward trend in cyber crime is likely to persist in 2017.
